Black guy with long hair gets epic cornrows!
The beauty (if we could call it as such) of long hair for men is that you can get as creative as you want with your long mane. You can style it in numerous manners, chop it in equally-numerous manners and you can twist it, braid it and curl it as you wish. Moreover, any male can grow his hair no matter his hair type or condition; whether you have afro-textured hair, wavy hair or straight hair, or whether you have thin hair, thick hair or are balding. Your follicles produce hair non-stop, so you can pretty much grow your hair long at any stage of you life.
As a note and having been a barber with long hair, any dude who has grown his hair long has pretty much fallen in love with the sense of freedom that long hair gives you, and it’s why once you’re a long hair, well, you will always be a long hair (even if you cut your hair)!
With the above said, it’s time to introduce to you the topic of this post: the cornrows hairstyle.
Long hair with cornrows?
Now, the cornrows hairstyle is a more of a work of an art than anything else. The hair has to be braided lock by lock, which takes time. Likewise, you need to be fast but efficient when braiding the hair, so a skill component is needed when braiding hair into cornrows. Lastly, one must be careful to not pull the hair too hard when braiding the locks nor leave the cornrows tied too tight, as otherwise traction alopecia can set in. In essence, traction alopecia is your number one enemy if you want to keep your long hair healthy for many years.
As a hairstyle, cornrows are usually done to skin when the hair isn’t very long. What this means is that the braided cornrow hair (also known as tracks) is “pieced” to the scalp by the braiding process. Thus, no hair is left dangling or loose. As such, this type of cornrows hairstyle is convenient as the hair doesn’t dangle around or required untangling.
Since long cornrows in men are quite the rarity, I’d like to show you below a picture of some really cool cornrows with braid done on a male with long hair. This particular cornrows hairstyle was done at one of our known barbershops, so we were confident that the long hair that was to be braided and put into cornrows would be in safe hands. As a long haired dude, it’s your duty to always put your hair in the best hands possible, so strive to find a barber or hairdresser who understands long hair and who has experience with its little intricacies.
The cornrows go across the scalp and then meet at either side of the back of the head to then form two excellently-made Herringbone braids, also known as fishbone braids. Herringbone braids are not particularly easy to plait as they are done tighter than the more-common French braids. The fact that the cornrows ended up in Herringbone braids is a work of art in itself!
