Wavy hair: a great blend of straight hair and curly hair

Out of all of the four hair types for men (straight hair, wavy hair, coiled hair and kinky hair), we believe that wavy hair has the most potential to look awesome. That doesn’t mean that straight hair or curly coiled hair in long haired guys cannot look awesome, it’s just that wavy hair combines the best of both worlds: the dangling and easy of styling of straight hair and the volume and curves of curly hair!

The straight hair benefit of wavy hair

One major complaint of men growing their hair long is how long it takes for their hair to start dangling. Essentially, one big milestone for guys growing their hair long is to have their hair naturally hang down instead of stick up or stand angled on the scalp.

Straight hair takes the least length to hang down, while kinky curly hair (i.e. afro hair) takes the longest length to hang down. Wavy hair, despite falling under the range of curly hair types, does hang down at a relatively short length of six to eight inches. Straight hair hangs down at lengths between four to six inches, hence men with wavy hair have similar lengths at which their hair hangs down.

The curly hair benefit of wavy hair

Now, the issue with straight hair is that it simply lacks natural volume. Just ask any straight haired dude about him having to use all kinds of hair products to get his flat, long hair with some volume. Enter curly hair.

Curly hair is described as non-straight hair; thus, curly hair is hair that is wavy, coiled or kinky curly. Since wavy hair is theoretically-speaking a “curly” hair type, that means that wavy hair gets to enjoy the benefits of the natural volume that all curly hair types have.

If you were to ask a woman what kind of mane she’d like on her perfect man, chances are that a thick, voluminous long mane of wavy locks would be among her first picks. Women love hair with volume as it stands out and it gives a male some wild character. Men with long wavy hair get plenty of natural volume without having to use many (or any) hair products, which means that they need less hairstyling time and they spend less on hair products that give extra volume to hair.

Is wavy hair the perfect male hair type?

No, it isn’t. It certainly is the hair type with the most potential to look impressive if well taken care of, but all hair types can look awesome at long lengths (again, if taken care of). Likewise, it all really boils down to your own hair type and being happy with how it looks when it’s long. Your hair type is determined by your own genes, which means that there’s nothing that you can do about it in terms of changing your hair type, aside from using chemicals and expensive tools.

So, grow your locks long or, if you have long hair already, keep rocking those locks. As for all of you long wavy haired dudes, don’t slack off on your hair care and soon enough your long mane by itself will be turning heads!
